What kuso is

kuso is the sequel to LOVE, a 2D precision platformer set in a dreadful mechanical world. You run, jump, and place your own checkpoints, then push through acid, long jumps, disappearing platforms, bouncers, giant saws and more. The design aims at a fair challenge: the levels are hard, but they're built to be learned and mastered rather than guessed at. The look is simple pixel graphics, and each of the 41 levels has its own music, with an original soundtrack by James Bennett running through the whole thing. There are collectibles and secrets to hunt down alongside the levels themselves.

Playing it together

The main way two people play together is Local 2 Player Race Mode, which covers 32 levels. Both players run the same stages and the race decides who gets through first, so the checkpoint placement and route choice matter as much as clean jumps. Remote Play Together is also supported, which lets someone join in over a connection instead of sitting at the same machine. Beyond racing, Speedrun Mode lets players compete for the fastest time, and Time Attack Mode is for drilling a single level until the time drops. Dedicated speedrun leaderboards cover both individual levels and full campaign runs, so there's a shared target to chase after the session ends.

Before you start

Expect to die a lot and repeat sections until the timing clicks — this is a difficult precision platformer, and that's the point. Full controller support is there for XInput gamepads, which is the comfortable way to play a game that demands tight inputs. There are 24 achievements to work through on top of the levels, plus the collectibles and secrets, so a first clear of the campaign isn't the end of the content. If your group likes practicing one stage until everyone shaves the time down, Time Attack and the leaderboards give that structure; if you'd rather just race head to head, the 32-level race mode is the direct route.
