This page explains what data the PLAYNEXT website (playnext.party) and the PLAYNEXT app (playnext.party/app) process. If you have a question or want your data removed, contact us on the PLAYNEXT Discord server.

The website

The website does not use cookies and does not ask you to sign in.

  • Visit statistics. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not set cookies or build a profile of you across websites. It reports totals such as the pages viewed, referring websites, countries and browser types. We also count visits with Umami, which runs on our own servers. It sets no cookies and does not store your IP address, and shows us the pages viewed, referring websites, countries, and browser and device types. It also measures how fast pages load and, for a sample of visits, records how you scroll and click as session replays and heatmaps; anything you type is hidden.
  • Language choice. When you pick a language, your browser remembers it in its local storage so the site opens in that language next time. It stays on your device.
  • Delivery and security. The website is served through Cloudflare. Like any web server, it processes your IP address and request details to deliver pages and protect the site against abuse.

The app

To start or join a session, you sign in with Discord or continue as a guest. The app then stores:

  • as a guest: the name you enter. Guests cannot link Steam;
  • with Discord: your Discord account ID, name and avatar, from Discord’s basic “identify” permission;
  • in a Discord Activity: the IDs of the Discord server and voice channel, so everyone in that channel joins the same session. They point to the channel’s current session and are kept until the server’s owner asks us to delete them;
  • if you link Steam: your SteamID and the list of games you own on Steam, which needs your Steam game details to be public. You can unlink Steam at any time;
  • your preferences, and the sessions you take part in with your suggestions, votes and session settings such as budget and language.

Other people in a session you join see your name and avatar, whether you are a guest, online and ready, your role in the session, how many games you have suggested, and whether your Steam library is linked. For each game in the session, they also see which members own it on Steam and who suggested it. Your votes stay private: others see only the totals.

Like the website, the app counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics and Umami, both without cookies. Umami also counts which actions are used, such as signing in, creating or joining a session, picking a mood or voting, without your account, name or session links. It also measures how fast the app loads and, for a sample of visits, records how you scroll and click as session replays and heatmaps, with all text, including names, and avatars hidden. The app sets two cookies that it needs to work: one that keeps you signed in for up to seven days, and a short-lived one that protects the Discord sign-in. Neither is used for advertising or tracking.

On your device, the app also keeps your language choice in local storage, and the invitation and connection details of a session in the browser tab’s session storage, which the browser clears when you close the tab.

We use this data only to run PLAYNEXT. We do not sell it or share it with advertisers. It is stored in our own database, reached through Cloudflare like the website, and kept in backups. When you unlink Steam, your SteamID is removed from your account at once; ask us on Discord if you also want your stored game list deleted.

Sign-ins expire after seven days and are then deleted. A game session ends 24 hours after it starts and is then anonymized: its suggestions and votes are no longer linked to you. Your account and preferences are kept until you ask us to delete them.

We process your account, Steam link and session data to provide the app you use (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR). Visit statistics, IP addresses and request details for delivery and security, and backups, are based on our legitimate interest in running PLAYNEXT securely and reliably and understanding how it is used (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can object to that processing at any time.
