Falling blocks, but you shoot them
Super Puzzle Platformer Deluxe takes a falling block puzzle game and turns it into an old-school platformer. Blocks drop from above, and instead of lining up matches you shoot them apart. Your goal is to survive as long as you can while the screen keeps filling up. It's a mix of action and puzzle thinking: you need to clear space fast, keep moving, and not get buried.
The game runs in pixel graphics with an amazing soundtrack behind it, and it comes from Andrew Morrish and Adult Swim Games. A November 2013 update added a new outfit, a new level, new challenges and more.
Playing together
The game supports local head-to-head multiplayer, so two people can go at each other on one screen. Steam also lists Remote Play Together, which lets friends join in over a network as if they were sitting at the same machine. That means your group can pick it up even when everyone is at their own desk.
Either way it works as a quick competitive round: each player tries to outlast the other while the blocks pile up. Rounds are short enough to rotate players and keep a Discord call going between attempts.
What to know before starting
There are 9 playable characters, each with unique abilities, so you can swap around and find one that suits how you play. The game has 7 worlds to explore, dozens of obstacles, hazards and enemies, and 20+ challenges to work through. Progress is tracked with leaderboards and 30+ Steam achievements.
Expect a steep curve. The game is tagged as difficult, and surviving is the whole point, so early runs will end quickly. Single player is there for practice, and local multiplayer is there for when you want to measure yourself against a friend.
