What Ghostlore is
Ghostlore is an 'Eastpunk' Action-RPG about hunting supernatural monsters drawn from Southeast-Asian folklore. The Penanggal, a disembodied head trailing its entrails, the Babi Ngepet boar demons of Indonesian myth, and the Hungry Ghosts of Chinese superstition all show up as enemies, and there are over 40 of them, each with quirks and tactics taken from their folklore descriptions. The world is procedurally generated and takes inspiration from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the wider region, with pixel art in an authentic 90's retro style and an isometric view. Expect classic ARPG loop: cut through packs, pick up loot, tune your build, push further.
Building your hero
You can mix-and-match abilities from 3 of the 6 classes: Adept, Exorcist, Feral, Geomancer, Hashashin and Sentinel. Each class brings a skill set of active skills, modifiers and passive bonuses, and you place them on a grid that grows as you level. Modifiers attach across and down to change how an active skill behaves, some with tradeoffs, and trigger modifiers fire a skill automatically when MP, cooldown and conditions allow. Put two compatible skills next to each other and they merge into a combo skill that carries traits of both. The Glyph system adds another layer: magical symbols inscribed on a body grid, based on the Toki Pona language, with rare Compound Glyphs that take five spaces but boost the glyphs placed inside their configuration. Loot matters too, from Southeast-Asian weapons like the wavy-bladed Kris, Parang, Kukri, Spear, Bow and flying Talismans, to Amulets you swap for the situation. You can collect and prepare meals for stat boosts, and a Psychic can awaken dormant spirits in weapons, shields, hats, scarves and amulets, which then ask you to settle a score before granting enchantments.
Playing together
The Steam feature listed for Ghostlore is Remote Play Together, so one person can host and others join in from their own machines. The store tags include Co-op and Local Co-Op alongside Singleplayer, so playing alone is fully supported. On a Discord night, the practical setup is one owner of the game running the session and friends tagging along through Remote Play, then dividing roles as you go: who focuses on raw damage, who leans on support or control, who carries the food and amulets. Because skill grids and glyphs are built individually, your group can cover more ground by splitting class coverage rather than everyone stacking the same abilities.
Before you start
Know that this is a build-crafting game with a lot of moving parts: grid placement, modifier links, combo skills and glyph layouts all reward planning, and the Compound Glyph layout in particular wants thought before you commit space. Maps are procedurally generated, so routes and drops differ between runs and there is no fixed path to memorize. The content is drawn from real regional folklore and includes gruesome creatures and horror imagery, so keep that in mind for who is watching on stream. The moddable tag means the game can be altered with mods if your group wants to tweak things later.
