What Worms Ultimate Mayhem is
Worms Ultimate Mayhem is the 3D take on the classic turn-based artillery games, pulling together the missions from Worms 3D and Worms 4: Mayhem into one package. You command a team of worms and take turns moving, aiming and firing across fully destructible landscapes, so every shot reshapes the ground the next player will stand on. The single-player side offers over 70 missions and challenges, including shooting tests, speed runs and skill tasks like piloting a jetpack or steering a parachute against the clock, all tied together with voiced cutscenes. The arsenal mixes the familiar tools of destruction, such as the Bazooka, Dynamite, Holy Hand Grenade, Banana Bomb, Baseball Bat and Super Sheep, with stranger options like Alien Abduction, Flood, Starburst and Bovine Blitz.
Playing it together as a group
Because turns are taken one at a time, the whole group can share a single screen, and the game supports local and online multiplayer for up to 4 players across five multiplayer modes, including Statue Defend, Homelands and Deathmatch. Custom game settings let you shape the rules before you start, and maps can be randomly generated, saved and shared, so no two sessions need to play out the same way. In-game voice chat is built in, which suits a Discord call just as well for cheering on teammates or needling opponents. Remote Play Together is available, so someone who does not own the game can join in over a stream. There is also standard and ranked play for anyone who wants to climb the leaderboards.
Before you start
Expect a slower pace than a shooter: you plan, you take your shot, then you wait while the other team does the same. The 3D camera is part of the challenge, though the game includes camera improvements to keep the action readable, and a picture-in-picture display tracks attacks so you can reposition without missing what happened. Customization runs deep, from team names, hats, glasses and moustaches to what your worms say, their flag and the gravestone they leave behind. You can also build custom weapons from a selection of components and keep them hidden until the moment you deploy them, which is where much of the bluffing comes from. Destruction is real-time and total, so terrain you blow apart stays that way for the rest of the match.
