A digital tabletop skirmish

Moonbreaker is a turn-based strategy game built to feel like a tabletop battle with digital miniatures. You lead a Captain and a crew of Units through fast, tactical skirmishes where every Unit has its own abilities, playstyle, and personality. The setting is The Reaches, a sci-fi universe written by Brandon Sanderson, with fully-voiced dialogue, audio dramas, and a Codex you unlock as you play. The game comes from Unknown Worlds, the team behind the Subnautica series.

Playing together

The main way to play with friends is Online PvP, where you take your Roster into competitive matches against other players. You can also play against AI when a full group is not available. If you want something to run on your own, the single-player roguelike mode "Boss Run" is there. Building Rosters is a big part of the game: no two Units are alike, and no two Rosters play the same, so each of you can assemble a team that fits how you like to play and then compare approaches.

Before you start

Expect a game that is quick to pick up but rewards thinking a few turns ahead, since it is turn-based tactics rather than real-time action. There is a strong customization layer on top of the strategy: Unit painting uses digital tools like undo, masks, and zoom, so you can paint your crew in ways that real miniatures would not allow. The lore is spread across audio dramas by Dan Wells, in-game dialogue performed by voice actors, and an unlockable Codex, so there is a lot of story to dig into alongside the competitive play.
