Command Rome's Rise in Turn-Based Battles

Field of Glory II is a turn-based tactical wargame covering the Rise of Rome from 280 BC to 25 BC. You take command of ancient armies on a 3D battlefield, moving cohort-sized units across tiles to outmaneuver and break the enemy. The game features 86 historically accurate unit types, from Roman legionaries and Hellenistic pike phalanxes to Gallic warbands, war elephants, and scythed chariots. Named generals lead your forces, influencing combat and the morale of the units under their command. Battles can range from a few units up to 80 units per side, and the scenario types include open battle, pursuit, flank march, rearguard action, and protecting the baggage.

Play Against Friends or the AI

You can fight historical scenarios or custom "what-if" battles against the AI or a human opponent. The multiplayer mode supports two players using an asynchronous PBEM server, so you can take your turn and let your opponent respond when they are ready. Remote Play Together is also available, letting a group share one session. In Campaign mode, you play through the battlefield careers of ancient generals, or pit any ancient nation against another, carrying your core units' experience and elan from one battle to the next.

What to Know Before Starting

The game uses classic turn-based, tile-based gameplay with an interface that is easy to pick up but hard to master, and there are 6 difficulty levels to match your growing skill. A random map generator creates an endless variety of realistic battlefields for custom battles and campaigns, drawing from carefully researched army lists covering Romans, Carthaginians, Hellenistic Kingdoms, Gauls, Parthians, and many more. The system is mod friendly and includes a built-in map editor. The Masters Edition bundle integrates Field of Glory: Empires' grand strategy layer with the tactical depth of Field of Glory II.
