What Desecrators is

Desecrators is a retro six-degrees-of-freedom shooter set in the year 4096, where the Milky Way is packed with installations owned by humanity's warring factions and empires. Deep-space refineries, orbital temples and military bases are stuffed with technology, weapons and riches, and you play a notorious desecrator who raids them from your FTL cruiser, the Nightingale. The goal is to plunder enough firepower and upgrades to pull off the ultimate heist: the legendary vaults of the Galactic Treasury. Rival desecrators want the same prize, and bigger threats lurk in the dark.

Movement is fully 3D. You roll, strafe, climb and dive through space with no fixed up or down, weaving through particle fire and swarms of homing missiles. The arsenal holds over 25 guns, missiles and mines, from a plasma thrower for close disintegration to a high explosive railgun for picking off targets at range. Enemies range from swarming drones to elite war machines that communicate and coordinate, and installation defenses fire on you and your rivals alike. Rumors point to massive experimental combat craft called Anomalies hidden in military and corporate bases, so it pays to save a nuke.

Playing it as a group

The campaign can be run solo or in online co-op with up to 4 players, and the full campaign also works in VR, solo or in co-op. In a group you move through the same randomized campaign together, splitting attention across threats that come from any direction in full 3D space. Since squads of rival desecrators also push into the level, a crew can end up caught between the installation's own defenses and a third faction fighting for the same loot. Coordinating who grabs which weapons and upgrades matters, because the opposition scales up to coordinated elite machines rather than simple target practice.

Before you start

Runs differ from each other: you choose your path through a randomized campaign and explore sprawling procedural levels filled with enemies, traps and secrets, so a route that worked last time will not play out the same way again. Expect old-school 1990s-style shooting with a stylized retro look rather than modern cover-based pacing, and expect to fight in open space where positioning in three axes is the main skill. Rival desecrators and Anomalies are the two things worth planning around: keep something heavy in reserve, watch your six, and treat every installation as a place that wants you dead from the moment you arrive.
