What Deep Rock Galactic is

Deep Rock Galactic is a co-op first-person shooter where you play as a dwarf miner sent down to the caves of Hoxxes IV. Missions take place in procedurally generated cave systems, so no two runs have the same layout. You dig for minerals, fight through alien hordes, and try to make it back out in one piece.

The terrain is fully destructible. You can dig tunnels, knock down stalagmites, and seal off choke points to make a fight or an escape route easier. Caves are spread across 11 distinct biomes, each with its own formations and its own flora and fauna, some of which are hostile. Expect over 50 enemy types: some crawl, some fly, some grab you from above or below, and many bite, slash or acid-spit.

Progression runs through unlocking cosmetics, weapons and player upgrades as you climb the ranks. Six full seasons of content are included with the base game at no extra cost, with no time-limited battlepasses and no gated content.

How your group plays it together

One to four players go down the mine as a crew, and each player picks one of four classes with a completely different toolkit.

The Scout is the mobile option: a flare gun to light dark caves and a grappling hook to zip around. The Gunner handles heavy firepower and drops an impenetrable bubble shield to keep the team covered. The Engineer sets up sentry guns, land mines and 40mm grenades to hold a perimeter. The Driller carves through rock with handheld drills and brings a flamethrower and C4 for bigger problems.

The classes are built to be used together rather than alone. Combine traversal tools to reach an objective, stack defensive gear on a choke point while someone mines, and cover the angles a teammate can't. Teammates matter constantly: it pays to watch each other's backs against swarms and to bring everyone home.

Before you start

The caves are a labyrinth, and you will rely on your own movement tools to get through narrow passages and open caverns. Plan how you get in, because getting out while carrying minerals is often the harder half.

Difficulty is adjustable, and there are captions, subtitle options, custom volume controls, color alternatives and camera comfort settings to tune the experience. Input can be played without timed presses, and full controller support is included. The game runs in single-player as well, so you can mine alone whenever the crew is offline.
