A serious racing simulator with a deep car list

Assetto Corsa is built around realistic car physics and laser-scanned tracks. The physics engine models tyre flat spots, heat cycles like graining and blistering, active aerodynamic parts driven by telemetry input, and hybrid systems with KERS and energy recovery. The tracks are reproduced with laser scan technology, so Monza, Silverstone, Imola, Mugello, Spa, Brands Hatch, Laguna Seca and the others match their real layouts, including a historical version of Monza with the Sopraelevata oval that ran races until 1961.

The content list is long and varied: production cars, classic Grand Prix machines like the Classic Team Lotus Type 49 and Ferrari 312T, GT3 and GT2 race cars, rally cars, supercars, trackday cars, and open-wheel racers. Circuits cover real venues plus fantasy tracks like Black Cat County and Highlands, and there is a drag strip and a drift track.

Playing together

Online multiplayer is the way a group races each other, and PvP is the core of it. Beyond head-to-head racing there are quick races, custom championships and race weekends with free practice, qualifying and the race itself, plus drag races and drift challenges. Steam Leaderboards and Steam Achievements give the group something to compare and chase between sessions, and Steam Family Sharing is supported.

Modes, assists and setup

Single-player includes a career mode, special events and challenges, racing against AI, Free Practice, HotLap, Time Attack, Drift and Drag race. Four driving assist profiles (gamer, racer, pro, and a fully customizable one) let players pick how much help they want, and advanced setup options plus telemetry are there for anyone who wants to analyze data. Time of day is adjustable, with sun position calculated in real time from the track's coordinates, and tyre rubber laid down on track builds up over laps.

Hardware and modding

The game works with keyboard, joypad, joystick, steering wheels including professional devices, and common motion systems. VR is supported through Oculus and OpenVR/VIVE, along with triple monitor view, Track IR and 3D VISION. Modding is a big part of it: cars and tracks can be created and shared using the same editing tools the developers used, and the game includes a level editor.
