A shooter where the window is the arena

Windowkill is a twin-stick shooter built around one strange idea: the game window itself is part of the fight. It constantly shrinks in on you, so the space you have to move in gets tighter as you play. Shoot the edges of the window to shove it around your screen while you dodge enemies and bullets. Bosses and enemies show up in their own windows, which makes the whole desktop feel like the battlefield. The game is experimental, and your screen itself is the play area.

Playing with friends

Local co-op is available, so a second player can join you in the same session. Steam lists Remote Play Together as a feature, which lets people join over the internet as if they were sitting next to you. Everyone fights the same closing windows and shifting play area, so you are coordinating movement and shots across a screen that keeps changing shape.

What to know before you start

This is a roguelike with permadeath, so a run ends when you go down and you start over. Between fights you get shop screens where you spend what you have earned, and you pick up upgrades and perks that change how your character plays. There are several unique characters to choose from, plus unlocks and secrets to find across runs. Enemies come in hordes and bosses have their own windows to deal with. Mouse and keyboard is the preferred control scheme, but gamepad is supported. The game is by torcado, with music by keestak.
