Dubbing awful clips together
What The Dub?! is a party game built around clips from bad B-movies, outdated PSAs, and strange industrial films. The dialogue in each clip is missing, and your group fills it in. You write the lines, the game reads them back with text-to-speech, and the result plays over the video. The clip library ships with over 600 clips, and community-made clip packs add hundreds more.
How a round works
Up to 6 players enter dubs, and up to 12 audience members vote. Everyone watches the dubs and votes for the best one, and the highest score at the end wins. Players type their text on a web-enabled device such as a phone, tablet, or computer. Text-to-speech supports over 29 languages, so you can write in the language your group is comfortable with.
Playing with people who aren't in the room
Remote Play Together is supported, and the store text describes a quick start for remote sessions: players use a browser-enabled device to enter text and vote, while remote players need to see the host's screen to watch the clips. The suggested method is to open a Zoom meeting, invite the other players, share the desktop with "Share Sound" and "Optimize for Video Clip" enabled, then start the game. Twitch chat voting is also available, with moderation and content tools to keep the voting clean.
Before you start
Everyone needs a web-enabled device to submit text, so make sure phones, tablets, or computers are charged and connected. The game is built for local multiplayer and party play, with streamer-friendly features on top. Pick a text-to-speech language your group can read comfortably, since the dubs are played back through TTS rather than recorded voices.
