Two prisoners, one escape plan

We Were Here Forever drops you and one friend into the dungeons beneath Castle Rock, with no idea how you got there or who put you there. From the cells you work outward through the Keep, the royal halls, the town of Rockbury, an eerie Graveyard and the dark waters of the Foundry. Along the way you pick up the story of Rockbury's inhabitants and a resistance forming against the King, and you start to wonder whether the two of you were brought here for a reason. Nothing in the castle is quite what it seems, and someone or something is trying to solve a puzzle set in motion long ago — with you as pieces.

How you play it together

This is strictly a two-player co-op campaign. Every puzzle needs both of you, and each of you sees things the other cannot, so you act as each other's eyes and ears. You start with a pair of walkie-talkies and your voice, and talking clearly is the whole game: describing what you see, what you tried, what just changed. Some situations put you under sudden pressure with a time limit, so the test is whether you can stay calm and explain things before the clock runs out. You will make choices about how to proceed, and the journey runs from the prison all the way to the outside.

Before you start

Both players need a working PC-compatible microphone and an internet connection — there is no solo mode and no way around voice chat. Expect a dark, atmospheric first-person adventure with horror and mystery over outright action, and expect to be separated from your partner often. Every game in the We Were Here series stands alone, so you do not need to have played the earlier ones, though the stories are connected. If you want more background on the setting afterwards, there is a six-part live-action series called We Were Here Stories: Chronicles of Castle Rock.
