Fight through Lady Tallowmere's dungeons

Tallowmere is a 2D action roguelite platformer where you delve into dungeons that are generated fresh every run. The core loop is simple: raise your shield to block incoming attacks, then lower it to strike when the timing is right. You can also jump or move to dodge traps, or keep your shield up to reduce damage. Rooms are randomly placed and get progressively bigger, harder, and more rewarding the deeper you go. You need to find a key in each room to advance, while collecting weapons, outfits, headgear, and shields of various rarities to aid your journey. Souls from slain enemies can be turned in to increase your base stats and passive abilities.

Play together on the couch

Tallowmere offers local co-op for up to 4 players sharing the same screen, making it a good pick for frantic couch gaming with friends in the same room. You can connect up to 4 controllers and play together. Network or LAN co-op is not available, so everyone needs to be in the same room. Remote Play Together is supported as a Steam feature. You can play with a keyboard and optionally mouse buttons, or use a gamepad or controller.

What to know before starting

Each dungeon is infinite in length, so it is up to you to push your limits. Local scoreboards and online leaderboards let you track your greatest efforts, and there are global Steam leaderboards for speedruns. The game features hardcore permadeath, so runs end when you die. There is a soft savegame system so you can quit and resume later, along with a personal high-score system with cross-platform Steam Cloud support. Difficulty settings are available to match your pain threshold, and there are challenge modes to try. Combat includes persistent bloodsplats and gibs, deadly traps like spinning pinwheels, acid clouds, and spikes, plus enemy types including fire mages, archers, leapers, conductors, ogres, flail knights, feelers, bloats, and zaeries. A dev console for cheats is included, as are sacrificial kittens.
