What Vagante is

Vagante is a 2D action platformer set in a dark fantasy world full of monsters, demons, and crooks. Adventurers travel these unforgiving lands chasing fame, riches, and power, and a rumor says a cave at the edge of the woods holds an unfathomable treasure. Several adventurers have gone in already and none came back, so you set out by caravan to investigate anyway. Levels are procedurally generated, so no two runs play out the same, and death is permanent — when a run ends, it ends. The game is built for players who want something challenging but rewarding.

Playing it with your group

You can adventure with up to four players, either sitting together locally or online through Steam. Remote Play Together is also available, so one person can host and others join in. Everyone picks their own class, skin, and background, then keeps customizing the character as they level up by choosing from unique class skills. Since runs are shared, the group has to move through the same generated levels together, dealing with monsters, traps, and bosses as a party. Inventory management matters too: enchanted items you find grant powerful enchantments and game-changing abilities, so what each player carries and equips shapes how the run goes. Coordination pays off, because the difficulty does not drop just because you are playing together.

Before you start

Expect a tough game. Vagante is described as designed for players looking for a challenging experience, and permanent death means a failed run sends you back to the beginning with a freshly generated world. Plan for multiple attempts rather than one long playthrough. There are four unique areas to explore, each with its own dangers, unique bosses, and traps, so progress comes from learning what each area throws at you. Choices matter along the way — class, background, skill picks, and item decisions all affect how a run unfolds. Progress that persists between runs is tracked in the Book of Secrets, which records unlocked classes, backgrounds, music, and more. If your group wants something to chip away at over many sessions, this suits that style of play.
