What SuperSmash: Physics Battle is
SuperSmash: Physics Battle is a multiplayer fighting game where the characters are fully driven by a physics engine. Nothing is scripted into fixed animations, so every swing, stumble and knockdown plays out differently. The result is that each fight is physically unique and the action is unpredictable — you can end up in situations no combo list would predict. The game is in Early Access, so it is still being worked on and it is not fully optimized yet.
How your group plays together
You fight your friends in online PvP matches. Each character can hold two weapons at the same time, so you can mix a melee weapon with something ranged, or double up on whatever suits your style. There are 45 different weapons to pick from, and with about 70 maps spread across 7 different map series, the arenas keep changing the terms of the fight — different layouts mean different ways to knock people around. There is also a level editor, so you can build your own maps and try them out with the group.
What to know before starting
Expect rough edges. The developer notes that the game is still in an early state, has not been optimized, and you might experience a very low frame rate. If that happens, drop the graphic settings to low — post processing especially — since that will significantly increase your frame rate. Updates may take some time to arrive, as one person is doing all the work on the game. Going in with that mindset, the appeal is simple: grab a couple of weapons, pick a map, and see what the physics engine does to your friends.
