Exploring the Biospheres
Subterror drops you at the bottom of the ocean floor, where a set of abandoned, weather-controlled domes known as The Biospheres sit in silence. These structures once supported vast arrays of lifeforms but have since been left to rot. Inside, you will find distinct environments to wander through, including arid desorts, dark forests, and frozen tundras. The deeper you push into these underwater ruins, the more you uncover about why the domes were built in the first place and what inhabitants may still lurk inside. It is a first-person experience that blends action-adventure with a heavy dose of survival horror and psychological dread.
Venturing with a Crew
While you can explore these depths alone if you are feeling hardcore, the game is built to support a crew of up to 4 players working together online. Moving through the dark as a group helps better your odds against whatever is hiding in the abyss. The experience leans heavily into PvE co-op, meaning your team fights against the environment and the creatures within rather than each other. Sticking together is presented as the safer way to play, though splitting up to cover more ground is always an option if your group feels confident.
What to Know Before Diving In
The dungeon sections within The Biospheres are procedural, so the layout changes each time you venture inside. This keeps the exploration unpredictable, but it also means you should expect to adapt your route on the fly. The game carries a perma-death tag, so losing a character likely carries heavy consequences for your run. Given the underwater setting, horror themes, and the constant pressure to not stay too late, the tone is tense and atmospheric rather than casual. Bring a full group if you want to maximize your chances, or go in alone to test just how deep you can get before the abyss catches up to you.
