Survival on an alien ocean

Subnautica 2 drops you on a brand-new alien world after the colony ship CICADA goes wrong. You are one of the Pioneers the ship was carrying, and the ship's AI insists the mission continues. Stranded with near-insurmountable odds ahead, you gather resources, craft tools, and build custom bases to stay alive. The planet is full of biodiversity to scan and study, from tiny creatures to towering Leviathans, and the depths hold both wonder and danger. Your goal is to uncover why the AI is so determined to press on and what mysteries lie beneath the surface.

Playing together in co-op

The game is built as a single-player experience that you can optionally play in online co-op with up to three friends, making four players total. You pick from four pre-designed characters, with more characters and customization options arriving throughout Early Access. Together you explore long-forgotten ruins, share the work of gathering and building, and adapt to a planet that might not want you there. One person can focus on base construction while another scans wildlife or pilots the Tadpole submersible, then you regroup at your shared base before pushing into deeper water.

What to know before starting

Subnautica 2 is an Early Access title in active development. Biomes, creatures, craftables, tools, equipment, vehicles, and the narrative will expand over time, so expect bugs, in-development features, and performance issues along the way. The developers treat player feedback as central to the process. If your group wants a survival game you can shape as it grows, this is a good fit; if you prefer a finished, polished release, waiting is the safer call.
