What OPERATOR is
OPERATOR puts you in the boots of an elite Tier 1 operator running clandestine missions across the globe. The style is deliberate and unforgiving: you plan, you move carefully, and mistakes carry weight. The game leans hard on realism, with realistic weapon handling, ballistics, injury, gore and active ragdolls. It is currently in Early Access, so expect things to keep changing as it develops.
A notable design choice is true first-person immersion. Your character's full body is rendered in the first-person view instead of the usual floating hands and gun, so leaning around a corner or raising a weapon is procedural and matches what other players see. You physically interact with doors, weapons occupy realistic space, and there's an adjustable crouch, lean and stance system that lets you dial in the exact angle with your mouse. A high and low ready system lets you rest arm stamina and avoid flagging teammates.
Playing as a group
OPERATOR has online co-op, so you and your friends work as a squad downrange. Success hinges on coordination and communication, whether you're clearing urban close-quarters or moving across open hostile terrain. Mechanics support that directly: weapon collision, variable movement speed, manual operation of firearms and shoulder tapping all matter when you're stacked up together.
Special tools give the squad options — tactical grenades, battering rams, hammers, and an ISR feed with thermal imagery that keeps you informed about the area of operations. For the opposing side, PvP "Force on Force" modes sit under simulations: Team Deathmatch rewards cooperation, while Free-for-All tests individual skill.
Planning and preparation
Missions are planned from a laptop in the armory. You pick active operations around the globe, use pre-gathered intelligence to shape the plan, and choose your ingress details including time of day and infiltration point. After finishing an operation you can replay it in simulation mode from the tactical operations hub, where you can change parameters like enemy count and enemy difficulty.
Weapon customization is deep: attach parts to tune a firearm for the mission, strip it to the receiver and build it up from scratch. If you want to warm up, the shooting range has a randomised shoot house that rerolls layout and targets — including non-targets — with a timer and run history so you can watch yourself improve.
