What Object N is
Object N is a hardcore retro-style FPS set in a Cold War era underground science facility called Object N. You play a special Soviet engineer sent to a clandestine government site where a mysterious disaster has already struck, leaving the place in chaos and under military occupation. The game runs on a modern fork of the open source Quake engine, so it keeps the look and feel of old shooters while adding bump mapping and per-pixel lighting. Movement has new mechanics on top of the classic formula, and gore effects are pushed hard. The goal across the run is to uncover secret areas, solve puzzles, and fight your way from the depths up toward the surface.
Playing it with friends
The game has an online co-op mode, so a group can work through the facility together. Since it is class-based, picking your role matters for how the group handles encounters and covers each other. Expect heavy PvE pressure: hostile forces and zombie-type threats fill the corridors, and the difficulty is described as hardcore, so coordinating on who pushes, who holds, and who handles the puzzles pays off. Splitting up to find secret areas and regrouping to break through occupied sections fits how the levels are laid out.
Before you start
Go in expecting a deliberately old-school shooter rather than a modern cover-based one. Movement is fast and central to survival, and the violence is explicit — gore is a feature, not an afterthought, and the game carries tags for both gore and horror alongside the combat. It is singleplayer-capable as well, so you can run it alone, but the co-op mode is where the group play sits. It is free to play, indie-made, and built to chase the aesthetics of classic shooters with a modern engine under the hood, so the rough edges are part of the intended experience.
