A Journey Through a Shattered World
Mai: Child of Ages is a third-person action-adventure set in a world recovering from the Last Great War. You follow Mai as she searches for her identity and the source of the mysterious creatures threatening the universe. The game blends precision platforming with hack and slash combat, shifting mechanics as you move between ancient eras and dystopian futures. You will explore Zelda-like dungeons, abandoned factories, ancient caves, and submerged worlds. The story centers on the bond between Mai and her Grandfather, an enigmatic figure who guides her and teaches her to master the arcane Uroboro Stone.
Playing Together with a Friend
While the main adventure focuses on Mai, the game includes a Coop Mode for playing with friends. The second player takes control of a primordial spirit. This spirit can possess enemies to assist in battles and offers other forms of help throughout the journey. The Steam features list includes Remote Play Together, allowing you to share the session with others.
Tools, Combat, and Time Manipulation
Mai wields the Uroboro Stone, a shapeshifting relic that manipulates time. You can use it to freeze objects in motion and rewrite the past to solve puzzles. As a child, Mai uses the properties of mystical plants to navigate environmental challenges. Combat requires strategy, asking you to dodge, defend, and strike using both melee and ranged attacks. You can craft new weapons and tools using Mai's journal and gather resources to forge artifacts. The game features Metroidvania-style progression, unlocking new abilities as Mai moves from childhood to adolescence. Expect over 20 hours of gameplay, including optional side puzzles and trials alongside the main story.
