A ruined world of lost technology
Hyper Light Drifter is an action adventure RPG set in a savage land called Buried Time, where echoes of a dark and violent past still resonate. You play as the Drifter, a collector of forgotten knowledge, lost technologies and broken histories, who is haunted by an insatiable illness. Traveling further into these lands, you hope to discover a way to quiet the vicious disease. The world is beautiful but vast and ruined, filled with dangers, treasure and blood. It draws on the best 16-bit classics but uses modernized mechanics and designs on a much grander scale. Every character and even subtle background elements are hand-animated, giving the whole place a distinct look.
Playing together with friends
The game is listed as singleplayer, but it supports Remote Play Together, which lets friends join in over a stream of your session. One person owns and runs the game while others follow along and take part through that connection. It is a good way to share the run through Buried Time with people on your Discord, since everyone can watch the hand-animated world and react to the same fights and discoveries at the same time.
What to know before starting
The combat is easy to pick up but difficult to master. Enemies are vicious and numerous, hazards will easily crush your frail body, and friendly faces remain rare, so expect a real challenge. Between fights you will upgrade weapons, learn new skills, find equipment, and push through a dark, detailed world with branching paths and secrets to uncover. The exploration matters as much as the fighting, so take time to look around rather than rushing from one encounter to the next.
