A tiny girl collecting her lost fuel
You play as Hat Kid, a small space traveller with a big tophat. Her journey stops when her fuel, the Time Pieces, is lost and scattered across a nearby planet. She has to jump, fight and stitch new hats to explore every corner of the world and get her fuel back to continue her trip. Along the way she runs into the Mafia of Cooks, the goofy birds of Dead Bird Studio and the shadows of Subcon Forest.
How your group plays together
The Steam features list Remote Play Together, so one person owns the game and friends can join in over a stream. The game is tagged Co-op, so you can play alongside each other. The store text does not say how many people can be in a session at once, so check that before you plan a big group night.
What to expect before you start
There are 5 large worlds to explore freely, and each mission is built differently. One moment you are solving the Murder on the Owl Express by finding clues and talking to locals, the next you are leading The Big Parade or sneaking through Dead Bird Studio. Hat Kid can do several jump moves, climb walls and swing over gaps, so there is plenty of vertical ground to cover.
Collecting rare magical yarn lets Hat Kid stitch new hats with their own abilities, such as a witch hat that makes explosive concoctions and a wooden ghost mask that lets her peek into other dimensions. Badges found, bought or traded from locals can make hats stronger. The game ships with full modding and Steam Workshop support, plus an in-game screenshot mode, so you can change things up or grab shots once you are comfortable with the basics.
