A tower defense built around hero control
策马守天关 is a Three Kingdoms tower defense where you place defensive towers, hero cards and tactical skill cards to hold off wave after wave of enemies. The twist is that you also control heroes directly: send them across the battlefield, have them strike in person and trigger their skills at the right moment, then combine that with what your towers are doing. Enemy leaders carry their own skills, and the maps throw in bosses, traps, rescue objectives, troop sending, sneak attacks and head-on clashes, so every second asks for both a plan and quick hands. The campaign covers seven chapters with more than 70 story stages and 26 Three Kingdoms heroes, each with a distinct role and skill set on the defense line.
Playing together
Online co-op is a core part of the game. The two-player map 人族无敌 is the classic Warcraft-RPG co-op tower defense mode, and 魔龙宝库 is a multiplayer endless mode where you and your partners keep defending for as long as you can hold. For competition, 夺塔奇兵 is a 1v1 tower defense arena that plays like a small MOBA match: rounds last 5 to 10 minutes, and you manually send troops that counter each other while your towers defend and your side hunts the opponent. It is lighter than a full MOBA but deeper than a simple card battler, since tower choice, troop counters, timing and hero control all matter. Beyond these, the game carries a large set of entertainment maps, including the story pack 吕布传 with dungeon and faction-push modes, the arcade-flavored 铜雀台 where five heroes take turns clearing a trap-filled dark dungeon, and 黄月英传, which uses a joystick to move the hero through stages.
What to know before starting
The first two campaign chapters teach the basic controls, and finishing them unlocks the newer modes: 群英阁 for solo challenges and 人族无敌 for two-player co-op. The newer playstyle adds a lot of free building plus roguelike random tactical skill cards picked during a match, giving you a long in-match growth curve similar to a MOBA. Because the direction you grow and the cards you draw differ each time, runs feel different from one to the next.
Some systems stay hidden until you go looking. Hero level caps only become clear once you spend time in the 1v1 arena, and hero star-ups are tied to that. The Three Kingdoms heroes are also split into four groups: 青龙 are magic warriors, 白虎 are agility warriors and agility mages, 朱雀 are pure mages, and 玄虎 are tanks. You will not see these categories until the equipment-hiding 圣兽觉醒 is lit up. In the final seven chapters, heroes can occupy tower slots; each one gains bonuses matching its group and turns into a powerful tower, so pairing the right hero with the right slot becomes a new layer of strategy. Even then, hero ultimates still need to be released on cue. The game leans hard on操作 alongside strategy, and controlling several heroes at once across the map is the baseline expectation.
