Tag with a timer on your back

Catch Me If You Can is a round-based tag game played in first person. One player gets cursed, and the curse has to be passed to somebody else before the timer runs out. If you are still holding it when the clock hits zero, you explode and are eliminated. Rounds keep going until only one player is left. The whole thing is fast and arcadey, and the skill comes from moving well rather than from aiming.

Moving around the maps

Your main tool is the grappling hook, which lets you swing across the arena and build speed. It runs on limited energy, so after a hard burst of swinging you need to wait for it to recharge before you can use it again. Bouncy walls are placed around the maps to help you keep momentum between swings. Powerups are scattered through the play area and give you an edge in movement. The maps themselves differ from each other, each with its own style, so learning where to hook and where to bounce is part of the fun. You can swing around while waiting for the next round to start, which is a good way to get a feel for the hook before the pressure is on.

Playing together

This is online PvP, so your group joins the same lobby and chases each other directly. Proximity voice chat is built in, which means you hear the people near you as they run past, so calling out positions and trash talk happen naturally during a chase. Lobby settings let you change things up from the default rules, so you can add a twist when you want a different kind of round. Cosmetics are equippable and drop after rounds, giving you something to work toward between matches.

Before you start

Expect a steep-ish learning curve: it is easy to pick up but hard to play well, and the grappling hook rewards practice. Energy management matters as much as speed, since a hook that is recharging at the wrong moment can leave you stuck holding the curse. The soundtrack changes dynamically as a round progresses, which helps you feel how close the timer is getting. Keep an eye on the clock when you are cursed, and be ready to hand it off the moment someone comes within reach.
