Turn-based battles between worm teams

Worms is the original turn-based strategy game from Team17 Digital Ltd. Up to 4 teams of worms fight across a battlefield that changes as the fight goes on. Each turn you move a worm, pick a weapon and try to remove the other team from the map. The last team standing wins. Crates drop into the field during play, handing out weapons and tools, and the exploding sheep are there too if you need something loud. The game runs on a 2D pixel look that keeps the whole thing readable even when the terrain starts falling apart.

Playing together with friends

Worms is built for groups. Teams take turns, so everyone gets time to think about where to stand, what to fire and how much risk to take. The options menu lets you change the rules and the whole style of play, so you can set up a quick round with a few spare minutes or settle in for a long session. Remote Play Together is supported, which means friends can join in over a connection instead of sitting at the same machine. The battlefield keeps shifting between matches, so the same setup rarely plays out the same way twice.

Before you start

Expect a mix of planning and luck. The game asks for real thought about positioning and weapon choice, but crates, explosions and terrain damage can undo a careful plan in one turn. That is part of the deal here. If you want to learn the weapons and utilities first, there is an extensive single-player campaign to work through before you take on other people. The game is tagged as retro and classic, so the presentation is deliberately old-school: simple graphics, direct controls, no fuss. It suits groups that want something easy to pick up but with enough depth to argue about whose turn it was.
