Turn-based worm warfare

Worms Reloaded is a turn-based strategy game where two or more teams of worms take turns firing weapons across a destructible 2D landscape. Each turn you move your active worm, pick a weapon from your arsenal, and try to blast the opposing team off the map or deplete their health. Between turns, the landscape changes as craters form, bridges break, and hazards like fire spread. The game includes 47 weapons and utilities, mixing classics like the Holy Hand Grenade, Concrete Donkey, and Armageddon with new additions like the Super Bunker Buster, Sentry Gun, and Buffalo of Lies. Alongside the standard deathmatch setup, you can play Crate and Shopper modes, Bazooka and Grenade duels, Fort mode, and Rope Racing.

Playing together

Worms Reloaded supports up to four players both online and offline. In local play, you share the same screen and take turns, which works well for a couch session where everyone can see the whole battlefield. Online play uses Steamworks for friends lists, chat, and matchmaking, so getting a group together is straightforward. The game also supports voice chat during matches. Because turns are sequential, the pace suits a group that likes to banter between shots rather than react in real time. Team-based setups let you pair up against others, and multiple leaderboards track results globally or among friends.

Customization and modes

The game leans heavily on customization. You can change worm skins, victory dances, gravestones, voices, HUD elements, and choose from over 70 hats. Speechbanks number over 70, including 50 remastered from older Worms games and 20 new ones. The landscape editor lets you build custom levels with your own start positions, mines, and rules, then share them for online play. The scheme editor adjusts game rules and adds random objects like sentry guns, electromagnets, and fire hazards. Thirteen HD graphical themes generate varied terrain, and 16 forts back the Fort mode.

Before you start

Single-player content includes a 35-mission campaign, a 30-mission Warzone Campaign for advanced players, Bodycount mode, and training with three tutorials and three firing ranges. The AI has seven personality types ranging from easy to very hard, with styles like vengeful and cocky. Controls are user-definable with classic settings as default, function keys give fast weapon access, and a compatible USB gamepad works. Note that Mac and Linux versions have a reduced number of achievements.
