What War of Dots is

War of Dots is a minimalist real-time strategy game where you command armies in top-down battles across a variety of maps. The whole design leans on simplicity: there are only two unit types. Light units are cheap, effective in most terrains, and at their best when fighting in numbers. Heavy units are slower and less maneuverable, and they only work well in clear terrain, but they bring high damage and health, which makes them the tool for breakthroughs and for holding a line that will not move.

The economy is equally small. Cities produce new units and supply the ones you already have, and each city supports up to five units. Anything above that limit starts to starve, so expanding your city count is how you grow your army rather than hoarding units on a single point of the map. Capturing cities is therefore the main way to pull ahead of your rival.

Playing it with your group

The game supports online PvP and online co-op, so your group can split into opposing sides or team up together. Matches are short and run in real time, which makes it easy to cycle through several rounds in one sitting. There are ranked PvP matches and casual matches, so a group with mixed skill levels can still find a format that works.

When a match ends, the instant replay shows both your moves and your opponent's, which is handy for a group that wants to look back at where a fight turned. There is also a level editor with custom map creation, so someone in your group can build a map and the rest can play it.

Before you start

Expect a game that is quick to pick up but rewards planning: the depth comes from terrain, timing, and how you split your units between light and heavy rather than from a long list of mechanics. Pay attention to terrain, since heavy units lose their advantage outside clear ground, and keep an eye on your city support cap so your army does not start starving. The interface is deliberately clean and shows only what you need to make decisions, so the reading of the map is on you.
