A pseudo-historical RTS from stone to steel

War Selection is a real-time strategy game where you build a base, gather resources, and fight for control of the map. Every player starts in the Stone Age and works through 7 historical eras, ending up with heavy tanks, long-range artillery, and combat airships. Along the way you pick a culture and then a specific country, and each choice adds its own mechanics and possibilities to how you play. The game has more than 200 buildings and more than 300 unit types across three branches of troops: land, air, and naval. All 7 eras and 8 cultures are available from the start.

Playing with your group

Matches put dozens of players on a single randomly generated map, so no two games play out the same way. For a group session, Team match lets you split up and work together, and Ranked battle runs at 1x1 and 2x2 if you want smaller coordinated fights. Match is free-for-all when your group would rather turn on each other. Tug of war and Armageddon are listed as special modes, and Armageddon asks you to constantly expand your territory without pause. Survival throws hordes of enemies at you, which suits a group that wants to hold a position together. Several of these modes are sold separately in the in-game store, along with 12 unique countries that bring their own units, buildings, and mechanics.

Before you start

Sandbox mode is the place to learn the systems without pressure. You can test every era and culture, build out a large city, and see how your defenses hold against the forces of nature and enemy troops. It is the clearest way to see how a culture changes your options before committing to it in a live match. The game is in Early Access, so expect things to shift as it develops.
