What Wand Wars is

Wand Wars is a fast-paced top-down magical sports game from Moonradish Inc. You ride a broom over ancient arenas, cast arcane spells, and turn your opponents into chickens. The core object is a powerful magical sphere that bounces around the arena and grows in speed and size over time, so the longer a round runs, the more frantic it gets. The arenas themselves change how a match plays out, and powerups and spells drop in to shift the balance mid-round. The whole thing is drawn in pixel art with a modern look, backed by an original soundtrack.

Playing together

Local multiplayer supports up to 4 players, and you can fill empty slots with the computer. There are 7 play modes: Arcane Arena, Team Arena, Merlinball, Hexout, Team Hexout, Spellstorm, and Medley. Some modes are free-for-all, others split you into teams, so a group can pick something rowdy or something coordinated. Remote Play Together is available, which lets friends join over the internet as well. The game also works as a spectator sport — matches are described as fun to watch as well as play, so a bigger group can rotate in and out.

Modes and progression

Singleplayer covers Story Mode and The Trials. The Trials is an endless mode where you fight through a series of arenas, face acolytes, and take on challenging bosses; each finished trial hands you a set of magical cards to choose from. The Trials also has optional 2 person co-op, plus a leaderboard. Beyond that, XP unlocks content as you play.

Before you start

Expect a competitive, arcade-style fight rather than a relaxed sports sim — the tags include Bullet Hell and Difficult, so rounds get busy and the learning curve is real. Matches are real-time and 2D, viewed from above, which keeps the action readable even with four players on screen. The tone stays light: characters are colorful and cute, chickens are involved, and the updates have added festive arenas, new Merlinball courts, seasonal skins, and a party game mode.
