A Co-op Detective Case

Unsolved Case is a point-and-click puzzle game where you and a friend play as detectives Ally and Old Dog. A mysterious locked box arrives at their addresses, pulling them back into the mystery of the Cryptic Killer. The killer was locked away in the Anagram Asylum years ago, but now he is taunting them again. Your job is to explore hand-illustrated locations, crack codes, and solve riddles to find a way out. The game is a standalone prequel to the Cryptic Killer series and is meant to be finished in one sitting, taking about 30 to 60 minutes.

Splitting the Clues

This game is built for exactly two players, and each person needs their own copy on a mobile, tablet, PC, or Mac. You will be playing on separate screens, and you will not see the same things. Each detective gets half of the puzzle at every location, so you will find items and clues that your partner cannot see. This means you have to talk constantly to share what you are looking at. The only way to get through the Cryptic Killer's traps is to describe your half of the screen clearly and listen to what your friend describes back to you. An internet connection and voice communication are essential to play.

Tools and Setup

Before you start, make sure you have a way to talk to each other while you play. The game gives you a notebook and pen that you can open at any time to write down codes or scribble notes directly on the environment, which is useful when you are trying to explain a pattern to your partner. The story picks up after the killer was put away, but a new lead suggests either he escaped or someone else is copying his work. The game is free to play and serves as a complete introduction to the larger puzzle series.
