What The Zone - FPV Drone Simulator is

This is a first-person drone flight simulator built by a sponsored freestyle pilot, Nils Vollenbruch. The physics are modeled on his own 5" quad, checked against real footage and Blackbox logs, so the handling stays close to a real drone. The default setup comes ready to fly, and you only need to adjust Weight and Power if you want a different feel. The single map is a replica of his home flying spot, where he has flown over 1000 packs, which lets him compare the sim 1:1 to real life. Some finer details and the surrounding environment are still being worked on.

Flying together with friends

Multiplayer supports up to 32 players on one server, so a group can share the same map at once. The main draw is spectating: picture-in-picture mode lets you watch several other pilots on the side while you keep flying yourself, and you can switch to fullscreen whenever you want. Watching how others move through the map is a direct way to pick up new tricks and improve your freestyle flow.

Before you start

You need a game controller or an RC plane radio to play, and an RC radio gives the best experience. This is a training tool, not a pick-up-and-play game: basic controls take about 2 to 5 hours to learn, and flying with any accuracy takes 10 to 20 hours. The game is in Early Access, so expect ongoing changes. Planned additions include drift cars, a proper environment around the map, fixed-wing and a special drone, a second map based on a real spot, and a custom map editor with Steam Workshop support.
