What Sword of the Necromancer - Prologue is about

This is a dungeon-crawler action RPG with Rogue-like elements. You play as Tama, a former rogue who was tasked with escorting the priestess Koko on her pilgrimage. During their travels Koko dies, and Tama carries her body to the Necromancer's crypt, where legends say a power exists that can resurrect the dead. The goal is to descend into the dungeon, defeat the guardians, and gather enough soul power to bring Koko back. Along the way you uncover the shared past of Tama and Koko as you advance through the dungeon.

How your group plays it together

Local co-op is built into the run. Use the Flask of Homunculus to create a copy of the playable character, which lets a friend join in local co-op. The second player controls that copy, so you move through the dungeon as a pair and fight side by side. The Steam feature Remote Play Together is also listed for this game.

What you do on each run

The Sword of the Necromancer revives defeated monsters, turning your enemies into allies that fight alongside you. You gather a small army of monsters while picking up weapons and relics. Weapons are generated procedurally, so each one carries different effects and attributes. Combat is a fluid head-to-head system where you use your weapons and objects to take down enemies. Fighting raises your level and improves your stats, and your summoned monsters also improve by fighting with you.

Death and progress

Death is not the end. On each try you get closer to the Necromancer, but you lose all equipped weapons and monsters, while keeping half the level you reached in that run. At certain points you can also choose to exit the dungeon, which drops all your level progress but keeps everything you have equipped. This makes each attempt a fresh push into the dungeon with different gear and a different set of revived monsters.
