A first-person roguelike dungeon crawl

Barony drops you into the cursed Barony of the lich Baron Herx, whose curse has nearly destroyed the town of Hamlet. You descend into brutal, procedurally generated dungeons full of vicious monsters and deadly traps, digging through loot, spells, and legendary artifacts to survive. It plays as a first-person RPG with deep stats and equipment to analyze and synergize, and it does not hold your hand. Perma-death means a bad decision ends the run, and every playthrough throws a new dungeon layout at you.

Playing together as a party

You can go it alone or gather a party of up to 4 players. The game supports split-screen locally, wireless play between Switch consoles, and online play with crossplay against other platforms, plus Remote Play Together. Pick from 13 classes, from the familiar warrior, wizard, and rogue to the more unusual sexton, joker, and arcanist, and build a group that covers each other's weaknesses. Coordination matters: pooling resources, watching each other's backs through traps, and deciding who grabs which gear keeps a run alive. Even after a player dies, they can keep haunting or helping the party by spawning as a ghost with spooky powers, so a downed friend is not fully out of the fight.

What to know before starting

Expect a difficult game with no handholding and permanent death, so the first few runs are about learning the dungeon's demands rather than winning. The RPG systems are dense, with plenty of loot and stats to read and combine, so take time to understand how your gear and spells synergize. The dungeons are cryptic and full of surprises around every corner, rewarding vigilance over rushing. Three DLCs add alternate ways to play with new character classes and monster races if the group wants more variety after the base game clicks.
