Design and pilot your own rescue fleet

Stormworks: Build and Rescue is a physics sandbox where you build vehicles block by block and then drive them. The editor gives you a wide range of components to assemble helicopters, boats, submersibles and other craft, and an in-game logic system lets you program how they behave. Once a vehicle is finished you can take it out onto the sea, land or into the air. The world covers over 15,000 square kilometres of ocean and islands, with a day-night cycle and dynamic weather that ranges from calm mornings to stormy nights and tsunamis. Wind and waves act on your vehicles through physics-based hydrodynamics and buoyancy, so a design that works in harbour can struggle in heavy seas.

Play together with your group

Cooperative multiplayer lets friends operate multi-crew vehicles and run missions that need planning and coordination between people. One player can handle piloting while another works the systems, repairs damage or manages the rescue itself. There is also PvP available for groups who want to compete instead of cooperate. Vehicles and missions can be exported and shared through the Steam workshop, so a group can trade designs and try each other's creations.

Choose how your group wants to play

Custom Creative Mode drops the survival and realism rules, letting you build large or unusual vehicles from the start without worrying about resources. It suits groups who want to experiment with scale replicas or ambitious designs. Career Survival mode instead starts you from a small operation and asks you to manage finances, build space and your own safety while completing missions to fund bigger vehicles and new bases. Survival difficulty adds advanced engine and fuel mechanics, LUA-based microcontrollers, vehicle damage, spreadable fire and several player damage types including fall and impact damage, fire, hypothermia from prolonged sea exposure, mechanical damage from rotor blades, water pressure damage and sharks.

Missions and preparation

Missions vary widely: rescuing survivors from the water, fighting fires, repairing oil rigs and operating nuclear power station machinery among them. Each one is unique, so the right vehicle for the job matters more than having one do-everything craft. A mission editor is included for creating your own scenarios, and career mode unlocks new locations and components while creative mode stays open-ended. Before starting, expect a learning curve around the building and logic systems, and plan for the weather and sea state to change how a run plays out.
