What Splody is

Splody is a 2D bomb-throwing arena game in the Bomberman tradition: drop bombs, dodge the blast, blow up your friends, grab power-ups and be the last one standing. Rounds are quick and the action stays readable, so a group can jump in and start competing within a minute. The game runs on a custom engine built for smooth performance on low-end hardware and snappy online play even on high-latency connections, so a spread-out friend group can still play together without the match falling apart.

How your group plays together

Local and online multiplayer mix freely, which is the useful part: several people on one screen can join an online game together, so you don't need everyone in the same room or everyone in the same house. Local player count is limited only by how many controllers you can connect, with 4 to 20 recommended. Bots fill empty slots or stand in as practice opponents. There are several modes to choose from. Traditional Last Man Standing is the standard survival round. Capture the Dino keeps everyone respawning and fighting over control of a mount until the match ends, so nobody sits out. Free for all and team play are both available, and Humans vs Bots puts your human players, online or local, against up to 64 bots. Special levels change how the arena behaves. When you die, you come back as a post-mortem ghost bomber and can still influence the match, which keeps eliminated players involved between rounds. Taunts are there for the usual friendly griefing.

Before you start

Levels are customizable in the level editor: you can change the layout, adjust power-ups, and share custom levels online. Ranking and leaderboards track how your group stacks up over time. Music is by The Hamster Alliance. The game supports any number and kind of controller, and Remote Play Together lets someone join from a distance as well.
