What Somewhere in the Shadow is
Somewhere in the Shadow is a first-person co-op horror game where you wake up somewhere dark with no idea who put you there or why. The goal is simple to say and hard to do: solve the puzzles scattered through a mysterious house and get out alive. The house itself works against you. Its residents patrol the place and will block your way to the exit, so moving through rooms is as much about timing and hiding as it is about finding the next clue. Expect a tense, quiet kind of tension rather than constant action — you spend your time exploring, piecing things together, and listening for what might be coming around the corner.
Playing it with your group
The game supports 1 to 4 players in online co-op, so your Discord group can jump in together and work through the house as a team. Splitting up covers more ground and gets puzzles solved faster, but it also means someone is alone in the dark when a resident shows up. If a teammate gets caught or ends up in trouble, the others can step in and help them out, which makes coordination matter more than raw speed. Solving riddles together is the core of the co-op experience, and the game leans into the fun of watching a friend jump at a scare while you are safely somewhere else — or equally terrified right beside them.
Before you start
You can also play the whole thing solo if your group is not around, facing every obstacle alone with no one to fall back on. Either way, go in expecting puzzles as the main mechanic alongside stealth and avoidance rather than fighting your way through. The residents are something to evade, not something you take head-on, and the atmosphere is built around being hunted in an enclosed, unfamiliar space. Bring patience for exploration and a willingness to communicate — the house is designed so that talking to each other makes the escape smoother.
