What Redout 2 is

Redout 2 is an anti-gravity racing game in the tradition of classics like Wipeout and F-Zero. You pilot a hovership at extreme speeds through futuristic tracks, some of which bend, loop and swoop in ways that would be impossible for a normal car. The setting is a semi-abandoned, dystopian Earth where racing is one of the galaxy's most popular sports. The driving system is easy to pick up but has a very high skill ceiling, so casual races work fine while still leaving plenty of room to learn braking lines, boosting and cornering properly. The soundtrack is a big part of the feel: electronic artists including Giorgio Moroder, Zardonic and Dance with the Dead provide tracks that the game mixes dynamically based on real-time race data.

Playing together

Multiplayer runs as online PvP with support for up to 12 players in a race, so a full group of friends can share a grid. On top of the standard races, the career mode offers varied event types like Arena Races, Time Attacks, Last Man Standing and Boss Races, which gives your group different ways to compete beyond just finishing first. Seasons add unique aesthetic rewards and regularly-added custom content, so there is something new to chase over time. Remote Play Together is also available, letting someone join in from a friend's session.

Before you start

The career mode is extensive, with hundreds of events spread across 36 unique racetracks, and every track can be run in reverse, which effectively doubles the variety you will be learning. Customization runs deep: 12 distinct chassis, plus propulsors, stabilizers, rudders, intercoolers, flaps, magnets, wings, spoilers, rocket engines and paints to tune both performance and looks. Expect to spend time in the tuning menus if you want to be competitive, since parts change how the ship handles. A controller is a common pick for this kind of racing, and Photo Mode is there for capturing your best highlights to share.
