What Maze Creep!! is

Maze Creep!! is a first-person stealth horror game with a satirical streak. You and your friends are test subjects sent by the Dastardly Intelligence Hub into Subject "The Maze", the creation of an extremely intelligent predator called Maze Creep. The mazes are procedurally generated and endless, so each descent throws up layouts you have not seen before. Your goal in each maze is to scavenge doubloons and equipment, then find the central exit to push deeper. The environments shift as you go down: tight spaces, aged locations, baffling things that seem like a joke, and even casinos. The tone runs dark and funny at once, with humorous deaths and a surprisingly dark lore sitting alongside the gore and violence.

How a group plays it together

The game is built around online co-op, and you go down as a group of test subjects. Most enemies cannot be fought, only tricked and avoided, so the group works by coordinating rather than shooting. Enemies create joint threats that need to be solved with your items, your wits, and the environment. Between mazes there are breaks where you can revive fallen friends and buy from the shopkeeper Mr. Long One, using the doubloons you collected. Communication matters more than usual here: Maze Creep can hear you sprint, jump, and even speak from any distance, and many other enemies rely on hearing too. Speaking softly is a real tactic, and if you do end up running, you have an infinite stamina pool to work with.

Before you start

Maze Creep is very hard on its intended difficulty, but the game offers lower difficulties and a custom mode that lets you tune the experience, including making it easier for a more casual run. The lobby host sets the difficulty, and the difference between the most brutal and the most relaxed settings is night and day, so agree on that before you queue up. Expect escalating difficulty the deeper you push, with 40+ additional monsters that get worse as you descend, and enemies that mostly find you through sight and sound rather than knowing where you are. Some of them are intelligent enough to check hiding places, so a spot that worked last time may not work again.
