What Inside the Backrooms is
Inside the Backrooms is an online co-op horror game for up to 4 players, built around the backrooms creepypasta. You and your friends wake up in endless identical rooms with old dirty carpet and pale yellowish walls, and the job is to work through the levels and get out. The game is in Early Access, so content is still being added. Right now there are 5 levels, each one bigger and harder than the last, plus 2 secret mini levels that lead to a secret ending. Every level brings its own puzzles and mechanics, so the way you play changes as you go deeper.
Playing it together
You explore rooms as a group, looking for items that let you push forward and unlock new areas. Puzzles are designed to be solved both alone and together, and their solutions change with each new game, so a run you did before will not give you the answers this time. Communication matters: there is proximity voice chat, which only reaches the people nearby, and radios let you talk to your team at a distance. Keep in mind that some entities can hear you, so talking loudly in the wrong place is a risk. Inventory space is limited, so the group has to decide what to carry and what to leave behind.
What to watch out for
There are 6 entities, each based on the original creepypasta, and each one attacks and appears in its own way. Learning how each behaves is the main survival tool, and having several of them find you at the same time is the worst case. Seeing an entity raises your anxiety, which brings fear and worse visibility, and stamina is limited, so running is something you spend rather than spam. Respawning works up to 3 times per player.
Items you can find and use include Almond Water to restore part of your life, pills to remove anxiety, radios for team communication, a flashlight for dark areas, a protection suit against radiation in certain areas, and documents and notes with useful information. Running out of essentials can end a run, so pick things up and manage them carefully.
