A co-op horror run through changing maps
Zort is a first-person action and horror game built for groups of up to 4 players. You move through different maps, collect the items you need, and work your way toward an exit. Doors you open unlock further doors, so the path stays readable instead of turning into a maze. The levels are linear, but the solutions are not fixed: each run can hand you a different way out, which keeps repeat play from feeling identical.
Each map brings its own main and minor creatures, and every creature has its own advantages and disadvantages. Traps and other unexpected hazards sit on the maps alongside them, so reaching the end means staying alive as much as finding the route. The game ships in Early Access, so mechanics and content can shift as development continues.
Playing together with your group
The game supports online co-op for up to 4 players, and it can be played solo, though the developers recommend a full group of 4 for a more immersive and frightening session. Proximity voice chat is built in, so you hear your friends based on where they stand, and voice filters change with the atmosphere to pull you further into the moment.
Splitting up to cover more ground or sticking together to survive a chase both work, since the goal is shared: collect what you need, get past the creatures, and finish the level without dying. Mini-games and scattered items give the group small side activities between the tense stretches.
What to watch for before you start
A sanity system runs alongside the environmental threats, so you need to manage your mental state even when no creature is nearby. The creatures themselves are meant to be figured out through play: the game drops hints about how each one behaves, but withholds enough that discovery stays part of the experience. Every map ties into the game's fictional universe, and details on each level carry meaning, so paying attention to your surroundings pays off. The developers keep an active Discord for updates, fixes, and community discussion, with many of the game's ideas coming from that server.
