Fighting through the Story Campaign
MADNESS: Project Nexus is a third-person Run n' Gun and Beat'Em Up built around arcade-style action and button-mashing combat. You shoot, stab, bash, and chop your way through droves of enemies, taking on heavily guarded installations, cultist-ridden tunnel networks, and dynamite-wielding cannibal bandits while dodging armor-plated Mag Agents that stand over three times your size. The Story Campaign runs for more than 8 hours and carries you through the secrets of Project Nexus itself. Expect plenty of gore and violent combat throughout.
Playing together and building your warrior
The Story Campaign supports local co-op with up to three other people using Xbox-compatible controllers, so a group can push through the campaign side by side. Arena Combat is solo play and lasts over 8 hours with New Game+ available; here you build a custom warrior from the ground up, advance through specialized skill tiers, and take on never-ending waves of enemies across environments ranging from killer game shows to haunted houses to high speed trains. You can also build custom weapons and outfit them with technology to gain an edge. The Playground lets you set squads of bad guys against each other in a secure combat environment, hand them any weapons you like or leave them to fight barehanded, and jump into the fray yourself.
Before you start
The game is tagged as violent with gore, so be ready for dismemberment and heavy combat throughout. Local co-op requires Xbox-compatible controllers for each player. Arena Combat and the Playground are listed as solo play, so the group experience centers on the Story Campaign. The game also supports Remote Play Together.
