What KUMASAMA is

KUMASAMA is a first-person horror adventure set in the present day. Bear attacks have been showing up in the news across the country, and the narrator assumed they had nothing to do with life in his own town. Then someone reported a large brown silhouette moving in the darkness at night, inside an abandoned factory. Something enormous is hiding in this town, and eventually the narrator comes to understand that the something is her. The game leans on that memory and on the days he can never go back to, so the tone sits somewhere between eerie and melancholy rather than pure shock horror.

How a group plays it together

The whole thing is a walking simulator: you move through the environment and events unfold as you explore. Progress comes from inspecting objects you find, not from markers telling you where to go. There are no quest markers and no time limits, so everyone can take their time looking around. Since it is a single continuous short experience, a group can pass the controller around or watch one person play and react together as the story reveals itself. Remote Play Together is supported, which lets friends join in from their own machines.

What to know before starting

Playtime runs about 10 to 40 minutes, so it fits into a short session rather than an evening-long commitment. The setting is a modern town with an abandoned factory at its center, rendered in a retro, 3D style with a cute anime look that contrasts with the horror subject matter. Expect exploration and atmosphere over combat or puzzles with hard rules. The description notes that "she" is timid but her claws are sharp, so caution pays off when you get close. There is no difficulty setting or branching structure mentioned, just a straightforward path through the story at your own pace.
