A hoverboard, jets, and grappling hooks
Jet Island is a VR game built around movement. You ride a hoverboard that removes friction from the ground, so you slide across the mountainous terrain instead of walking it. Two wrist-mounted jet thrusters let you steer and build speed, and grappling hooks let you swing from tall structures or climb the sides of giant monsters. Together these tools let you slide, jet, and swing anywhere in a massive open world with no limit to how far and fast you can fly. The physics and gameplay were built from the ground up for VR, and the game supports Valve Index Controllers.
Playing with friends
You can go solo or join friends online. The group shares the same open world, so you can travel together, launch off the same cliffs, and swing between the same buildings while each of you finds your own line through the terrain. When it is time to fight, the 4 massive boss fights are the main shared challenge: you can climb the monsters with your grappling hooks and take them on as a group.
What to know before starting
The core loop is movement first. Expect to spend time learning how the hoverboard, jets, and hooks combine, since that combination is what gives you the freedom to go anywhere. Along the way you can find and defeat drones to unlock higher stats, which feeds back into how far and fast you can travel. The world is large and mountainous, so getting comfortable with sliding up and down slopes is the main skill to build before you chase the bosses.
