A single-player VR shooter set deep underground
Vertigo 2 is a single-player VR adventure built from the ground up for virtual reality. You wake up deep in Quantum Reactor VII with the goal of finishing your journey home. The reactor is a huge, bespoke world with a wide range of environments to explore as you descend. Along the way you face bizarre alien flora and fauna leaking from other universes, plus android security forces whose job is to purge the reactor of all life. Sinister agents lurk just out of sight, so part of the trip is working out who to trust. The campaign runs 18 chapters and carries much more content than the first game.
Playing it with friends
This is a single-player game, so one person wears the headset and works through the campaign alone. The Steam feature Remote Play Together is listed, which lets others join in remotely. There is no local co-op or competitive multiplayer described for this game.
What to know before you start
You need a VR setup, since the game is a first-person VR shooter. Locomotion is hybrid: both smooth locomotion and teleportation are viable, so you can pick whichever suits you. Expect a large arsenal of 14 weapons, each with its own reload mechanic, and dozens of creatures and robots to discover. Boss encounters are a series staple, and this entry brings 10 new bosses. The cast of characters is fully voiced, and there is an original soundtrack with hours of songs and scoring. The game carries tags for gore, violence, and Lovecraftian content, so keep that in mind for your group.
