A skyfaring action RPG with a party of four
Granblue Fantasy: Relink drops you into the Sky Realm, a world of islands floating in a great blue expanse. You play as the captain of a skyfaring crew, sailing with Vyrn, a scrappy little dragon, and Lyria, a young girl with mysterious powers. Your crew includes kings and misfits alike, and your goal is Estalucia, a fabled island beyond the end of the skies. Along the way you pass through the Zegagrande Skydom, where islands are guarded by powerful creatures called primal beasts, and where winds carry tales of a secretive organization known as the Church of Avia. The story pulls you into a web of intrigue that reaches past Zegagrande's borders and into a battle for the fate of the Sky Realm.
Fighting together in real time
Combat is real-time and built around a party of four skyfarers, each with their own weapons, skills, and combat styles, so you can slash, shoot, or hex your way through enemies. Party-based mechanics like Link Attacks and Chain Bursts let your team hit harder when you coordinate, and every enemy and party formation has its own strengths and weaknesses to work out. Quests can be taken solo or with other players in up to 4-player co-op, and clearing them scores rare loot that further enhances your gear. If fast-paced combat is not for you, Assist modes are available: Full Assist performs all actions automatically during battle.
Crew stories and lore to dig into
Beyond the main quest there is a large pile of side quests to pick up. Fate Episodes let you dig into the backstories of each member of your crew, and Lyria's journal can be opened at any point to read up on the world's peoples, places, and history. Worth knowing before you start: the game runs on real-time character action combat with a set party of four, co-op is online and covers quests, and the assist options mean your group does not need everyone to be comfortable with the action side of things.
