A vertical scrolling rhythm game built around making maps
fluXis is a community-driven rhythm game where notes scroll vertically and you hit them in time. The look is minimalist, but the playfield itself is yours to shape: you can move it around, change the key count mid-song, flash the screen white or turn it greyscale, and layer in visual and gameplay effects without limits. Customization goes further with texture changes and HUD elements you can reposition however you want. Alongside playing, the editor is a core part of the game: it is feature-packed, lets you create your own maps, and lets you share them with the world. Cross-game compatibility means you can import and play maps from various other rhythm games, and add support for more games through plugins.
Playing together with your group
fluXis supports online multiplayer, so you can play with your friends or compete against strangers online. There is also online co-op and PvP to choose from depending on how your group wants to spend the session. If you are all in the same room, local multiplayer and local co-op are on the table, and Remote Play Together lets you bring the local experience to friends who are not physically there. Score Attack gives everyone a shared target to chase, and online leaderboards let you see how your group stacks up against the wider community.
Before you start
Expect a game that rewards tinkering as much as playing. The editor and the effect system mean a lot of the fun comes from building and tweaking maps, so budget time for that if your group wants to make something to share. Because maps can come from other rhythm games and through plugins, what you play is not limited to what ships with the game. The tags cover singleplayer, co-op, PvP, and score attack, so there is room for both a quiet solo session and a group night.
