What Spin Rhythm XD is
Spin Rhythm XD is an electronic music rhythm game that puts you in the Rhythm Dimension. It takes its cues from classic arcade rhythm games like Guitar Hero and DDR, but pairs them with a modern look and soundtrack. The core loop is simple: match colours and beats by spinning, tapping, flicking and flowing along with the music. The levels are fully hand-made rather than procedurally generated, and the backgrounds react to what you are doing. The game runs in 3D with a futuristic, colourful style.
Playing together
Spin Rhythm XD supports Remote Play Together, so a friend can join your session over the internet even if they do not own the game. The game itself is built around singleplayer play, so you are really taking turns watching each other chase high scores rather than playing on the same track at once. There is also a global leaderboard if you want to measure your runs against players everywhere. For control, the game works with mouse and keyboard, gamepads, and real MIDI DJ turntables on Steam, with touch-sensitive jogs recommended for the turntables.
Before you start
There are 80 licensed tracks from artists such as Nitro Fun, Au5, Moe Shop, Hyper Potions, Camellia, Anamanaguchi, Panda Eyes, Teminite, Anomalie, Tut Tut Child, Pegboard Nerds, Tristam, Maxo, Tokyo Machine, Rogue and 2Mello. Levels come in five difficulties: Easy, Normal, Hard, Expert and the brutal XD. The game is tagged as difficult, so expect a steep climb at the top end. Accessibility options are built in, including custom colours, track speed adjustments and low impact visuals. As you beat high scores and level up, you unlock wheel skins, UI skins and more, and there is a full-featured level editor if you want to build custom levels to your own tunes.
