What Floor Kids is

Floor Kids is a breakdancing game built around rhythm and trick style. You string together moves in time with the music, and the scoring system pays attention to musicality, originality, feel and style rather than just hitting a fixed sequence. The freestyle controls are made for improvisation, so you can pick your own route through a character's move set instead of following one prescribed combo. The cast is 8 unique characters, each with 16 moves and over 100 transitions between them, which gives you plenty of room to find a style that suits you.

Playing it together

The game has a single-player story mode where you build up a crew of bboys and bgirls, unlock new venues as you move across the city, and go from the corner to the club. Along the way you bust hundreds of different moves and countless combinations across 8 locations and over 40 tracks. For groups, there are two-player breakdance battles, so two of you can square off against each other. Steam also lists Remote Play Together, which lets people join in over a connection rather than sitting at the same machine.

Before you start

Expect a rhythm game that rewards feel over rote memorization: the scoring system looks at how musical and original your play is, so there is real space to improvise rather than replay the same input string. The hand-drawn animations are by award-winning animator JonJon, and the original music and sound design come from scratch DJ/producer Kid Koala, so the soundtrack and visuals are a big part of what carries the game. It sits across action, casual, indie and sports categories, and the rhythm and trick-style controls are the core of every mode, story or battle.
