What Droid Assault is
Droid Assault is a top-down arcade shooter from Puppygames built around fast, tactical fights against swarms of robots. You move through 50 atmospheric levels filled with destructible scenery, mines and turrets, and you face 48 different robot types, from basic Guardbots up to Assassins, Special Ops units, Battledroids and large boss robots. The look and feel go back to 8-bit classics: pixel graphics, 2D, quick runs and constant pressure rather than slow cover shooting. The tag list also marks it as a singleplayer game, so the core experience is one player working through the levels alone.
How your droid squad changes the fights
The main mechanic is the transfer beam, which lets you capture enemy droids and build your own squad. Those captured droids come with modern weaponry — lasers, rockets, grenades, flamethrowers and disruptors — and you can boost them with 17 kinds of powerup. That turns each level into a small tactical problem: which droids to grab, how to equip them, and how to position the squad so you survive the next wave and the boss at the end. Destructible scenery matters too, since you can use it against the robots or lose your cover to them.
Playing together
Steam lists Remote Play Together for Droid Assault, which lets friends join in over a connection rather than needing everyone to own the game. The tags also include Local Co-Op, so there is a shared-play route for people sitting at the same machine. Check the mode you pick before you start, since the game is also tagged Singleplayer and the store text describes the campaign as a solo run with your own droid squad.
Before you start
Expect a dense, fast-paced retro shooter: lots of enemies on screen, mines and turrets to dodge, and bosses that need a prepared squad rather than raw reflexes. The transfer beam and powerups are the tools that keep a run going, so spending time capturing and upgrading droids is worth more than rushing straight ahead. It suits groups who want short, arcade-style sessions where everyone can jump in and watch the squad work.
